STUFF TO BRING
TO THE BEACH
Fave Swimming Trunks

A sand sprint short by Athleta.

Sun tops
Eddie Bauer's First Ascent Solarfoil tops keep the sun out -- and the flys off -- when you've had enough.

Cushy flipflops
These Atlantic Dune flipflops by Under Armour are the closest things to the Adida flipflops I love

Beach Sarong
A lightweight beach sarong keeps the flies at bay and the sun and it feels good when you walk. This sarong by Aruna is organic and made from linen and cotton; the Indian soft voile ones look pretty (though I haven't tried either); mine is vintage and can no longer be found, but anything light and soft that covers the legs will do nicely).

Backpack beach chair
I have two of these beach chairs -- love the backpack straps for ease of carrying and the little cooler -- and it lays flat for taking a snooze.

Beach reading material
What I'm reading now:
Erin French's book 'Finding Freedom: A Cook's Story' and her cookbook: 'The Lost Kitchen'. She is an inspiration.

iphone 13 pro
Using anything other than a phone to capture images at the beach is off-putting to most people. IMHO only an apple iphone will do.
Natural Sunscreen
Using mineral based sunscreen is a healthier choice; they appear on the white side so do apply sparingly and rub the sunscreen in well. Note that spray versions like this Canadian company's sunscreen are not as chalky.

Water bottle/s
I like a no-fuss (more sanitary) stainless steel water bottle with handle and a carabiner for ease of carrying like this one -- and it has an extra bottle for a friend.

Bocce Balls
Hands down the best beach game ever is bocce balls -- we played each Summer (it got a bit competitive). These are some nice vintage vibe balls,

Sun hat
A good sun hat is a must have -- this is my go-to beach hat because it's UPF 50+ protection, wide brimmed, and the draw string keeps it on my head in strong beach winds. Good for kayaking too because of the stiff brim.
